Why me?

Hey there,

If you are visiting my blog today, chances are that you are a friend, family member or fan of Michael W. Smith’s music. Welcome!

I am in Albany, NY today, on the final day of the USA leg of Michael W. Smith’s ‘A New Hallelujah Tour’. It has been a great year and a half since we made the ‘A New Hallelujah’ worship album in Houston, TX.

As I look back over the last 18 months I think of many great moments. The birth of Jack, Isaac’s first day at ‘Mothers Day Out’, playing to and worshiping with 44,000 Dutch folk whilst being beamed live to TV all over Europe… It is a charmed life. Too many planes to count, too many laughs to relive.

As the year draws to a close, I am struck by the mystery of how I got to be in this awesome place. I feel like I am living in some other dude’s dream. None of this rock’n'roll life was ever the goal. In fact, the only goal that I ever had was to marry Mary Henderson. I got that done in 2001….

So, why do I get to live this life that so many dream of?

I’m not sure.

However…

I have been brave enough to make some great decisions in my life. Sometimes that is all that matters.

I also position myself in the reality that ‘His grace is enough’. And honestly, with that insight comes much rest and joy.

To quote Lightning McQueen (from Caleb’s favourite Movie… CARS) “I love being me”…

I can’t be more grateful for this current season of heaven on earth.

Check back in on me soon.

Matt

You say “Why me”? and my reply is that you were hand picked by the Lord to be one of His chosen servants to reach out and touch lives with your gift of music and ministry. I told you last night after the concert that I would pray for you and your family. That is what I intend to do as the Lord leads me… I would also appreciate letting me know your prayer requests as the time goes on. I am a Foreign Language teacher in a middle school and will retire in June and move to Cape May NJ. I look forward to waking up every day to the sound of the ocean outside of my window. I have been involved in multiple music ministries at my church for 6 yrs. I have played guitar and have been involved in music(bands etc.for over 35 yrs.) I played a Fender Jazz bass also for 3 yrs many yrs. ago. Despite my losses(the death of my husband 10 yrs ago, both of my parents and some friends along the way,) God has taken my pain and loss and turned it around for His good. I have a 21 yr. old daughter Sarah who is struggling right now with some heavy issues-please pray for her. I thank God for you, your fellow musicians and of course, Michael W. Smith. He is like the Energizer Bunny. lol God bless Matt!

God is good, isn’t he? We met at the fence in Davenport almost two months ago, and I hope there is a time in heaven to sit down with your family and recount all of his wonders. Thank you for remaining faithful to the call. You are loved–give my love to Mary and your children for allowing you to be a blessing to people like me. THANK YOU
