Backyard Cricket in the USA
By mattsmallbone. Filed in Sport |Hey,
I’m on a tour bus headed to Canada. We will be up here for the next few weeks.
Last night I had a few minutes to put together a little video for my family about ‘Backyard Cricket’… which is one of Australia’s greatest past times.
I thought you might enjoy it… maybe. Whatever the case… my brother-in-law (Hugh) and I have played a lot of cricket over the last few days. The bowling shoulder is sore… but the heart is happy.

I think you should dedicate a post specifically to cricket trash talking and all the great lines you’ve picked up along the way

Greatest Sledge of all time: Shane Warne and Ian Healy vs. Arjuna Ranatunga
Shane Warne asks the slightly overweight batsman Ranatunga what it would take to tempt him out of his crease.
Ian Healy: “Put a Mars Bar on a good length. That should do it.”

All I can say is a big THANK YOU for FINALLY making the game of Cricket intelligible to this American! I’ve heard of it for years, and read a description or two, but could never really understand it.
Looks like fun, though I can’t imagine being out there for the longest version of it.

The greatest sledge – Viv Richards swings and misses at a few balls from Merv Hughes. Merv: “Hey Viv, it’s red and it’s round”. Viv then hits the next ball out of the park and into the street outside. “You know what it looks like man, go and find it”.
BTW Matt – that full toss was a shocker!

Hugh got up this time… mostly thanks to some streaky edges to 3rd man.
